How To Reprogram Your Mind For Happiness & Positivity

by GlamourZONE

 Happy Wednesday!
Today I am continuing with the topic of Self-love. One of the reasons why people tend not to love themselves is because they have a negative mindset. Today’s post is from  Helen Bradford, a student from Sydney who enjoys writing about beauty, health, food, and lifestyle. I really loved her tips and I decided to share them with you.

According to the number of scientific studies, positive thinking can have a great impact on your physical and mental health. Once you start replacing your negative thoughts with more positive ones, you’ll experience how life-changing it could be. It will help you go through your life as a happy, peaceful and satisfied person. But, the question is: how to reprogram your mind for happiness?

Convert negative self-talk

What is a self-talk in the first place? It’s a set of things you tell yourself inside your mind. Imagine it as an inner voice that comments on your performance. However, those comments can easily become criticisms, which can affect your self-esteem. So, how can you convert negative self-talk into a positive one? Firstly, try to notice when you tell yourself negative sentences such as “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll never succeed”. Then stop, make a pause and assess. Instead of forming your thoughts around what you did wrong, focus on what you did right. Once you take a look at your actions from a different angle, you’ll start sending yourself positive messages. “I’m not good enough” will become “I’ll get better with practice”. “I’ll never succeed” will become “I’ll try again and do better next time”.

Start the day with the compliments

Apparently, the first moments you experience in the morning will determine your mood during the rest of the day. For example, you have probably woken up late sometimes just to see how unlucky circumstances simply seem to line up one after another. The reason for this may be the fact that you experienced negative emotion the first thing in the morning which affected every other situation on that day. Therefore, it’s important to start your day with the compliments, or better said, self-affirmation. As silly as it might seem, talk to your reflection in the mirror. Boost your confidence by saying “I’m beautiful, I’m smart, today I’m gonna be great”. And your day will be much better.

Be thankful

Of course, there are numerous reasons in everyone’s life for being under the weather and feeling sad, distressed, and even desperate. On the other hand, there’s also an indefinite list of reasons for being happy, positive, and enthusiastic. It’s only your decision which one of them you’ll pay attention to. If you want to reprogram your mind for happiness, start practicing gratitude. Be thankful for what you have – things, people, life experience. For instance, when you express gratitude towards people you love, you’ll get kindness in return. By being grateful for seemingly unimportant things in your life, you’ll find meaning in your life and feel satisfied with it. In Tibet, for example, monks are grateful even for the suffering, because that’s the way to “awaken in the deepest possible compassion and wisdom”.

Surround yourself with positive people

It’s a common knowledge that people around us tend to influence our mood and behavior, which is exactly why you should surround yourself with positive people. In that way, your mind will be constantly bombarded with positivity – positive stories, positive affirmations, positive points of view, which will consequently reprogram your way of thinking. Therefore, try to avoid people with a negative outlook. If someone really close to you has the same problem, your family member or life partner, start reprograming your mind together. In this case, the best option for you both would be to seek professional help.

Embrace the mindfulness

Although the mindfulness has its origins in Asian cultures, it keeps gaining in popularity around the Western world. Many Australian specialists have even incorporated its elements into the therapy. Any good psychologist from Sydney would say that mindfulness can help you deal with difficult thoughts. The point of mindfulness is to become aware of the present and your actions. When letting life pass by, it’s likely that you’ll stop feeling happy about simple things. After you start being mindful of your decisions, your environment, and your daily activities, you’ll be able to take charge over your life. It’ll help you to reveal stress, anxiety and negative thoughts.

Get creative

Getting creative has a great power over your positive thinking. It’s a chance for you to explore your thoughts and express them with your hands. Whether you’re artistic or not, you should give yourself a chance to explore your creativity. So, take up a course in pottery, painting, or wood carving; learn new crafting technique such as knitting or decoupage; write poems, articles or short stories, etc.

Of course, life isn’t all roses. Everybody has ups and downs. But, remember, nothing is as bad as it seems – after the rain comes the rainbow.
